It’s just recently Zimbabwe’s president, Robert Mugabe mocked America’s decision to legalise gay marriage across all 50 states by vowing to travel to the White House and proposing to Barack Obama.
Following the likes of US and Ireland decriminalising homosexuality, yesterday Mozambique went ahead to legalise marriage of same sex in a new penal code which came into force.
It comes as other African countries are crusading against homosexuality. But Mozambique is not the only African country to take this step, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Madagascar, just to mention a few, supports gay marriage
The new penal code, which was announced last December by then president Armando Guebuza, also decriminalises abortion after lobbying by civil rights organisations. The code came into force on Monday, though no official events or celebrations were scheduled to mark the occasion
